Royal Mail Recorded Delivery.

Royal Mail Recorded Delivery

The Royal Mail recorded delivery service is the normal postal service but with the "delivery" being recorded, ie a signature being required.

As its only "recorded delivery" there is no tracking, they will only have a details of the item after it's been delivered.

We often get the situation that Royal Mail staff will say they have no details of an item, this will be correct, until its been delivered. This does not mean we haven't sent the item, it means its being processed through their system for delivery.

All items will have a REFERENCE number and you can use the Royal Mail website, "Track and Trace" section, to check if its been delivered. You cannot do as THEIR name for it suggests, "track and trace".

Recorded delivery is a low cost / economy service ideal for small low value items, because normal mail arrives in a few days it does not mean small packets / parcels will. As we say on the delivery page;

"If you required next day delivery (or by a specific date) select it, do not rely on 1st class mail."

Whilst the majority of items arrive in a few days, this is normal post, it is not a guaranteed service. Normally Royal Mail require we wait for 7 working days for first class and 10 for second class before they will accept the item has been lost, at busy times or for other reasons they can extend these time scales, which we are bound to. Currently, despite what it says in their website, they require we wait 15 days for both 1st and 2nd class.

After we despatch the goods we can only wait for Royal Mail to complete the delivery or accept the item has been lost, in a time scale decided by them.
