DVD-RAM media is a relatively old standard, and is already used extensively in the archival optical media field, as well broadcasting. It's highly stable both as a standard and the media, however due to it being relatively specialist medium, and being more complex to make than the other recordable DVD formats, most of the media manufacturers making DVD-RAM disks are the usual big name brands, and the cost per megabyte is significantly higher. On the plus side however, the disks are more robust, as the standard packaging is in a caddy ( which may be removable, that’s what the various 'Types' ( Type 1, Type 2 and Type 4 ) signify )
